There are also some data sets available for exploration.

If you are interested in open standards in the geospatial community, the following site should be added to your link repository:

http://www.opengeospatial.org/

You can download the OpenGIS standards which abstract many attributes, properties and concepts of geospatial, sensor, and GIS ‘XML’ formats at:

http://schemas.opengis.net/

Viewing the available demonstrations introduces you to a number of abstract concepts such as the RPC Sensor Model. For example:

http://www.opengeospatial.org/resource/demos

Interoperability among GIS systems is a major objective of the OpenGIS. The ERDAS Apollo product illustrates the utility of the use of OpenGIS standards.

A recently penned blog at (Co-working)has conceptual relationships with the futuristic use of game design and game theory for real world and life (Avant Game). Jane Evelyn McGonigal’s articles and academic publications on experimental game design reminds me of the Star Trek Borg and has relationships to a new book Wired for War, where a 19-year old high school drop outperforms Air Force Trained pilots in the manipulation of military robots.

I remember being fascinated with MIT’s Ubiquitous Computing PBS episodes way back when(?) and I longed to be at MIT wearing computers in my shoes, coat, and a heads up display in my glasses. At that time I wanted to do a PhD thesis on designing an uber-development machine where an individual programmer could control multiple computers using all of ones anatomical digits (hand and foot), eye control, thought, and speech modalities. How many simultaneous projects and languages could cognitively be processed in parallel? Could anyone become the ‘Iron Man Pragmatic Programmer’?

The formal relationships between co-working, gaming, ubiquitous computing, and robots and other concepts is alive and evolving.

Were you not able to attend the Spring One Conference held in December? Here is the agenda both you and I missed:

http://americas.springone.com/conference/hollywood/2008/12/schedule.html

One technique that I use to garner trends for a conference I did not attend is to iterate over the agenda, search for the presenter’s name and blog and attempt to infer the general content of the presentation. It would be great if the No Fluff No Stuff folks would make the presentations available for some appropriate fee.

One area that I was interested in was the Spring Integration presentations and the use of Grails with the Spring Framework. I found a blog entry for a simple example at http://blog.springsource.com/2008/12/11/spring-integration-in-grails-part-1/ by Russ Miles. I worked through this example and except for IDE configuration and upgrading to grails-1.0.4 issues, the program worked well as documented. Also see (SOA4Real)

I also noticed a podcast of interest on the recent acquistion of G2One by Spring Source: http://media1.roadkast.com/hansamann/grails_podcast_episode_72.mp3. This podcast details the current and forecasted evolution of Grails in relation to the Spring Framework. Of the many attactive features – the OSGIafication of Grails plugins seems particularly adaptive. Also, this podcast provides an excellent contrast between Grails and Spring.
